Grants, Scholarships, Awards, Contests and Sponsorships

Grants, Scholarships, Awards, Contests

Business Development supports schools and school councils as they consider applying for grants, scholarships, awards and contests. These opportunities are reviewed to ensure they align with TDSB policies and procedures.

Organizers who wish to promote their opportunity are invited to complete the application form and provide us with more information at https://tdsb.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0O52b1sm0nAJznw  All opportunities will be reviewed and measured against TDSB policies, procedures and guidelines.

Sponsorships

Sponsorships often involve pre-determined benefits for the sponsor, including use of corporate logo and/or materials, joint use of corporate logo with the TDSB logo, media opportunities and other forms of recognition. All recognition given to a sponsor must adhere to the Advertising Policy and Procedures.

Sponsorship ≠ Donations

Sponsorship is most often used as a method to deliver advertising or as an advertising tool. Since sponsors are receiving a benefit for their contribution, they are not eligible to receive a tax receipt for their donation. Examples of benefits include:

  • company signage;
  • an announcement at the event; and/or
  • shoutouts in newsletters sent home with students, etc.

Donations are not tied to specific recognition, endorsement or other publicity, though it is good practice to thank donors, both privately and publicly for their support. Since donors do not receive “recognition” for their contribution, they are entitled to a tax receipt. Examples of donor recognition include:

  • written letter/email to the donor(s);
  • Good news stories on school website; and/or
  • expressed thanks at a school assembly.
