Superintendent of Education/Supervisory Officer Qualified Applicants’ Pool 2021-2022

The Toronto District School Board is now welcoming applications to our Qualified Applicants’ Pool (QAP) for Academic Supervisory Officers – Superintendents of Education.

The Toronto District School Board is proud to serve the 250,000 students in Kindergarten to Grade 12 and more than 150,000 learners in our Continuing Education Programs. Our mission is to enable all students to reach high levels of achievement and well-being while acquiring the knowledge, skills and values they need to become responsible, contributing members of a democratic, and sustainable society. Every member of the Toronto District School Board plays a role in improving and transforming outcomes for students and creating a productive working environment which advances Truth and Reconciliation, implementing the Calls to Action and upholding our commitments to Human Rights and Equity.

In order to achieve the goals outlined in TDSB’s Pandemic Recovery Plan and Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP), we are in the process of transforming how leadership can move beyond the traditional frameworks of 21st century leadership competencies. The TDSB’s Equity as a Leadership Competency describes some of the current capacities required of leaders to identify and eliminate the systemic, local and individual forms of discrimination (e.g., anti-Indigenous racism, anti-Black racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, anti-Asian racism, anti-South Asian racism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia), hate and oppression.

The position of Superintendent of Education requires individuals who are able to build trust and engage staff, student and community voices in school improvement, resulting in greater engagement, equity, learning and well-being. TDSB is steadfast in its efforts to ensure Indigenous Education is embedded to our daily practices. Successful school improvement and systemic changes result in a reduction of disproportionate outcomes and experiences for all students, but especially those who are historically and currently underserved.

Staff are transforming student learning, providing equitable access to learning and resources, creating a culture of student and staff well-being, and building strong relationships within school communities. In addition, there is a focus on achieving service excellence and operational effectiveness. To achieve these goals, candidates who have produced results aligned with those identified in the MYSP and are motivated, optimistic, and ethical system leaders will find this to be an interesting and rewarding opportunity. Successful Supervisory Officers in the TDSB develop and maintain high levels of engagement with Trustees and provide support to the Board to serve in a manner that is responsive to its entire community.

Interested candidates are invited to attend a virtual information session with the Director and Executive Superintendent of Employee Services that will serve to communicate leadership priorities and guiding principles on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 4:30 pm. Selection Process

  • All applicants must hold a valid Supervisory Officer’s Certificate. (Candidates currently enrolled and completing the Supervisory Officer Qualifications’ Program may apply)
  • Candidates must submit an initial Notice of Intent (Appendix E), a subsequent Confirmation of Intent (Appendix F), Letter of Application, Resume, Recommended Referees Form (to include their Immediate Supervisory Officer/Supervisor) (Appendix G) and a recent performance appraisal (if available).
  • Candidates must have at least five years of successful leadership as a Principal or equivalent leadership role.
  • Resumes should highlight the candidate’s demonstrated experiences and competencies relevant to the goals of the Board as set in the Multi-Year Strategic Plan and TDSB’s Equity Leadership Competencies
  • The selection/interview process for candidates is set in Policy(P055), PR516 Section 6.1 outlines the specific steps
  • External candidates will have their Notice of Intent (Appendix E) signed by their Immediate Superintendent/Supervisor, their subsequent Confirmation of Intent (Appendix F) will be endorsed by their Immediate Supervisor and their Executive Superintendent (or equivalent position)
  • Successful candidates may remain in the QAP for a period of three years.

All applicants will forward to Ann Reina subsequent supporting documents by January 4, 2022 at 4:00 p.m., including:

  • Endorsed Confirmation of Intent by the immediate superintendent/supervisor and the Learning Centre Executive Superintendent (or equivalent) (Appendix F)
  • Letter of application
  • Resume
  • Recent performance appraisal (if available) and
  • Recommended Referee Form (Appendix G)
