Google Translate Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Excursion Vendor?
An excursion vendor is any organization that provides a venue or service for school excursions/field trips off of TDSB property.

What are the types of excursion vendors?

  • Physical Activities (Indoor / Outdoor)
  • Camp / Leadership Centre
  • Conservation / Ecology Centre / Park
  • Farm / Zoo / Indoor Aquarium / Reptiles / Ecology
  • Amusement Parks (Indoor / Outdoor)
  • Gallery / Museum / Cultural Centre
  • Theatre / Performing Arts

If your venue does not fit into one of these categories, please select "other" in the application and we will do our best to place you in the appropriate category for the Directory. Note the Directory includes a search field that is often used by trip organizers to search for a vendor.

What is the Excursion Directory?
The Directory is an internal, online listing of all approved excursion vendors. The Directory is available to all educators working in the TDSB’s more than 550 schools.

I’m a vendor who wants to be included in the TDSB’s Excursion Directory. What is the process?
To begin the process, complete and submit an online application. Your application will be reviewed by TDSB staff to determine curriculum relevance. There will be an operational review of submitted documentation related to insurance, safety standards and contractual requirements. Once your vendor review is complete and has been approved, your information and applicable forms will be added to the Directory where teachers and other trip organizers can access this information to plan excursions.

What information and documentation needs to be included in the application?

  • Description of your educational programming and its connections to the Ontario curriculum
  • Copies of any applicable certificates and licenses (for example, TSSA certificate)
  • Copies of waivers, contracts and booking forms
  • Copies of emergency and safety plans, and swim test documentation
  • Other safety documentation as required for the excursion (for example, Challenge course inspection report)

What are the fees to be included in the TDSB’s Excursions Directory?
The costs to be included in the Directory can be found here.
No fee is required if you do not charge TDSB for Excursions to your site.

What does the Promotion fee option include?

  • Video
  • Staff registration and alerts
  • Separate site dedicated to promotions and special offering
  • Create an excursion opportunity

What if my organization has multiple sites?
If all the sites have similar offerings and similar exposure to students, they will be listed under the same page, and the fee would only be for one location. Otherwise, we would review each site separately which requires separate document and resources and thus the fee would be paid individually for each site.

What is considered for Educational Merit?
In addition to promoting inclusiveness, equity, leadership, and student engagement, the following Ontario Curriculum areas are considered:

  • The Arts
  • Canadian and World Studies
  • Classical and International Languages
  • English
  • English as a Second Language / English Literacy Development

  • Guidance and Career Education
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Science
  • Technological Education
  • Mathematics
  • Business Studies

Once approved, what happens?
Your information and applicable forms will be added to the Directory where teachers and other trip organizers will be able to access this information to plan their excursion or event. Information added includes:

  • Vendor logo
  • Vendor website link
  • Vendor order process and contact information
  • TDSB vendor number
  • Payment process
  • Safety related documents

Are students insured?

Are you considering transportation vendors?
The TDSB has an approved list of excursion/field trip bus transportation vendors. Students may also use public transportation, if appropriate.

Are travel and tour operators included in the TDSB’s Excursion Directory?
