Innovation

The TDSB is a leader in education. We are an ambitious organization and are proud of the accomplishments of our staff, students and school communities. We have been recognized both nationally and internationally for a number of successful programs and initiatives that have enhanced the lives of thousands of students not only in the TDSB, but across the country and around the world.

  • We released the largest youth census in Canada. Close to 90% - or 103,000 - Grade 7-12 students participated in the Census making the size and scope of its findings important to informing how communities support youth inside and outside the classroom
  • We host hundreds international delegates each year from countries including China and Germany to showcase TDSB programs
  • TDSB staff includes some of the leading international experts in education and research
  • We are a leader in environmental education. In 2003, we designed and launched Ontario's first EcoSchools program
  • Our research report linking nutrition to academic success was the first-of-its-kind in Canada and helped determine the impact of nutrition on student health, behaviour, attendance, attention and achievement
  • We offer a wealth of specialized and diverse choice programs, including two leadership academies, the Oasis Skateboard Factory, arts schools and Africentric programs
  • Our staff have written new curriculum in Africentric education which was approved by the Ministry of Education
  • Our innovative work in Caring and Safe Schools has shaped provincial policy significantly
  • We were the first school board to offer pediatric health clinics inside our schools to help support our students
  • We support nearly 160,000 lifelong learners through our Continuing Education department
  • More than 80% of our students are accepted to university or college
  • In 2009 we established the first Gender-Based Violence Prevention office in Canada
