Background:
The 149 College Street development is a 60-storey mixed-use building that will be constructed next to Orde Street Public School. Major construction projects can create disruptions and disturbances that can lead to operational challenges for nearby properties, particularly schools. Based on the significant impacts that construction will have on the school, staff feel it is necessary to relocate Orde Street Public School to another site during the construction. Although challenging, relocation will mitigate against on-site operational issues, including safety concerns, as well as any unforeseen impacts or delays.
Update on June 2, 2026:
A second Community Information meeting was held on June 2, 2026. Staff shared at this meeting the decision to relocate the Orde Street PS to Heydon Park Secondary School located at 70 D’arcy Street and to relocate the Orde Day Care to the Contact Alternative Building located at 132 St. Patrick Street. Orde Street PS and Orde Day Care will remain at their current locations for the 2026-27 school year. Both the school and the day care will be moving to their respective relocation sites in September 2027. The Heydon Park SS and Contact Alternative School buildings will undergo renovations in early 2027 to accommodate the groups moving into them. Additional information on the relocation can be found in the presentation slides and recordings under the “Meeting(s) – Community Engagement” tab.
