
Program Information
Toronto District School Board’s (TDSB) African Heritage Program connects students to the contributions of people of African descent, their histories, cultures and traditions, through inquiry and experiential learning. The four main content areas of the curriculum that are the focus of classroom learning are; Early Civilizations of Africa, Celebrations and Traditions, Achievements and Contributions, and Rights and Equity. Nguzo Saba, a Swahili word also known as the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa are embedded throughout all of the inquiry in the curriculum to provide guidance in the learning
Cost
$20 material fee required at the time of registration
Where and When
The African Heritage program can be offered in TDSB schools around the city in which an ILE program is currently running. Classes are held one day a week, after regular day school or Saturday. There are 30 classes/weeks in total. Classes run for 2.5 hours.
Please note that there are no classes on PA Days, long weekends, December Break and March Break.

Registration Information
Please note that registration is ongoing. Our registration process will accommodate all days of significance.
Online Registration
Online registration is currently not available. Please see below for in-person information.
In-person Registration
To register, please do the following:
- Download and complete the registration form.
- Print the completed form. When you print, please choose “Fit to printable area” under printer settings to ensure that the entire form is printed. Not choosing this option may result in printing only part of the form.
- Sign the registration form
- Bring completed registration form to the ILE/AH school only on the day and time program is running. Complete registration with payment of $20 materials fee. Cash is not accepted. Debit/credit cards and cheques are accepted as forms of payment.
