Remote Learning - Elementary

The process to request Remote Learning for the 2024-2025 school year has closed. For further information, please contact virtuallearningregistration@tdsb.on.ca.

The TDSB is transitioning to a Virtual Elementary School model for students in Grades 4 to 8, which will be phased-in over four years:

2025-2026: Grades 1 - 8

2026-2027: Grades 2 - 8

2027-2028: Grades 3 - 8

2028-2029: Grades 4 - 8

Beginning for the 2025-26 school year
elementary students will have the option to attend Virtual Elementary School, a single school that will host all remote learning classes. This school will have a dedicated Principal, office staff, teachers and support staff.

French Immersion, Extended French, LEAP, Alternative Schools, and Student Interest Programs continue to be available in-person only.

Current Remote Learning Students
Students in SK to Grade 12 currently attending school virtually will be automatically enrolled in Remote Learning for the 2025-2026 school year.

Students who wish to return to their designated school by address for in-person learning must submit a Return to In-Person form between January 6 and 31, 2025, aligning with the Elementary Out-of-Area Admissions process.

Requesting Remote Learning

Students who are currently attending school In-Person can request Remote Learning for the 2025-26 school year through the Out-of-Area Admission process, beginning in January 2025.

While it is our goal to accommodate requests for Remote Learning, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be met. Priorities for Out-of-Area Admission (as per Out-of-Area Admissions Policy) also apply to Remote Learning.

Proof of Residency
All students who select remote learning must provide proof of residency in Ontario before school starts in September 2025. This is now an annual requirement from the Ministry of Education. Families must visit the school office in-person with documentation for this process.

Remote Learning Q&A

Remote Learning is for students who wish to learn in a virtual environment. Students will participate in fully virtual classes (no simultaneous/hybrid learning) and will be part of a community of students and staff from throughout the TDSB. Virtual learning students engage with peers and their teacher(s) synchronously (face-to-face in real time) in a virtual environment using Brightspace, Microsoft Teams and/or Google Meet.

Online classroom environments are engaging and one where students feel a sense of belonging and where their social and emotional well-being is supported. Students participate in synchronous and asynchronous learning (small groups, full class, student-teacher conferences and independent work).

To develop the classroom community, enhance student engagement, and build connection with one another, students are expected to have their cameras on during class time. Students are expected to fully participate and attend class regularly. Students or parents/guardians/caregivers can speak with the Principal if there are concerns.
