Secondary Out-of-Area Admissions

Students who reside within the City of Toronto have the right to attend a school which is designated to serve their residential address. The "Find Your School" section of the website identifies the designated schools for each residential address.

Students also have the opportunity to access schools outside of the school that is designated to serve their home address by applying for Out-of-Area Admissions. Acceptance at these schools is subject to space availability and program suitability. Find more information and details here.

If you are interested in attending a school other than your designated school by address, each student can submit one online application. When applying for Out-of-Area admissions in September 2023, applicants may include up to two (2) school choices in their application.

If applying to two (2) schools, the choices must be ranked. Each application will be considered equally (adhering to the random selection priorities). Applicants selected for their first choice will not be considered for their second choice.

After the Random Selection Process: FAQ

What if I have already accepted a seat in a Central Student Interest Program and I am offered a seat through Out-of-Area Admissions?

If you are wishing to attend the Central Student Interest Program, you MUST decline the Out-of-Area Admissions offer of acceptance. If you accept the Out-of-Area Admissions offer, you will be forfeiting your place in the Central Student Interest Program and it will be offered to another student on the waitlist.

What happens if I accept the offer for my second choice program? Will I remain on the waitlist for my first choice school?

Yes, you will remain on the waitlist. If a space becomes available for you in your first choice school, you will be automatically placed in that school and removed from your second choice school. You will be notified by email of the change.

If you are happy with your second choice school, you should contact your current school and ask to be removed from the waitlist for your first choice school. Once removed from the waitlist, you cannot be returned to the waitlist.

If you are a non-TDSB student, please email to be removed from the waitlist.

I am on the waitlist for one (or both) of my schools. What happens now?

If spaces become available in schools, applicants will be moved from the waitlist to the vacant seats. If you are offered a seat, you will receive an email notification on either February 15 or 22, along with an acceptance deadline.

You can continue use your results link to see your position on the waitlist change over time.

Offers will be made until February 22, 2023.

What do I do if I accept an offer now and change my mind?

Applicants may decide to attend their local school. If you accept an Out-of-Area Admissions offer and change your mind, please notify your current school before February 22, so that another student has the opportunity to take your spot. If you are a non-TDSB student, please email to inform us of your decision.

I am a non-TDSB student who has accepted a seat through Out-of-Area Admissions. How do I get registered at my Out-of-Area school?

Non-TDSB students who accept seats in a school through Out-of-Area Admissions will receive a link to a registration form for the school. You will have a limited amount of time to submit the form and provide the necessary documentation to your requested school. If you are already pre-registered at your designated school by address, you will need to notify them of your placement as soon as possible.
