Supporting Students Outside of Out-of-Area Admissions

Some students may receive priority-placement support outside the standard Out-of-Area application process in specific circumstances.

 

First Nations, Métis and Inuit students

PR545 Section 3.7 – Priority Placement Exceptions

In alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, First Nations, Métis and Inuit students have priority access to regular programs at standard intake times, including schools Closed to Out-of-Area Admissions, where possible.

Regular intake times include the end of a term, Winter Break and semester changes.

To request support, use the facilitated advocacy form below or contact the Requested School directly.

Requests will be shared with staff from the Urban Indigenous Education Centre. Arranging for the following year during January and February is strongly recommended to support accommodation and timely course selections.

Secondary students with children in local Child Care

PR545 Section 3.7 – Priority Placement Exceptions

Secondary students whose children are enrolled in a licensed Child Care centre within the requested school’s designated attendance area are supported with priority placement outside the standard application process, where possible.

Requests will be shared with staff from the Central Program Admissions Office (CPAO).

The requested school can help arrange the next steps. At Closed schools, reasonable efforts must be made to accommodate timetables or provide viable alternative options, with Central Program Admissions Office (CPAO) consultation as required.

These priority-placement pathways are separate from the standard Out-of-Area application and lottery process.
