International Baccalaureate

Update on IB Fees:

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, IB fees for the 2022-23 school year will be suspended. The fee structure for the 2023-24 school year will be released around December 2022, subject to the status of the pandemic and budget considerations.


The TDSB is proud to have a number of authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) Schools.  The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) is a recognized leader in the field of international education, encouraging students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens.

The Diploma Programme is for students aged 16 to 19 and is a demanding two-year curriculum leading to final examinations and a qualification that is welcomed by leading universities around the world.

This programme includes a curriculum, pedagogy and student assessment appropriate to the age range, professional development for teachers and a process of school authorization and evaluation.  

The International Baccalaureate Mission Statement:
The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.  To this end, the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

IB Learner Profile
IB programs promote the education of the whole person, emphasizing intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth through all domains of knowledge. Underlying the IB program is the concept of education of the whole person as a lifelong process. The ten characteristics of the IB Learner Profile, include:

IB Diploma

The IB Diploma  is a specifically designed educational program for students in grades 11 and 12.

Monarch Park CI, Parkdale CI, Sir Wilfrid Laurier CI, Victoria Park CI, and Weston CI offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme that gives students first year university credits and is recognized in over 125 countries. The IB Diploma program offers students a rigorous academic program which requires students to study English, a second language, mathematics, science, social science, the arts* and theory of Knowledge

(*Schools are permitted to substitute another IB subject group to fulfill this requirement.)

There are six externally marked exams, 150 hours of extra curricular activities, a university-styled essay, and a philosophy course called Theory of Knowledge. This exciting program gives students a real advantage in applying for post-secondary schools all over the world.

The IB Diploma programme, centred on academic excellence and personal achievement in sports and the arts, will prepare students for the challenges of university anywhere in the world.

There are specific entrance requirements for the TDSB IB Diploma programmes and a preparatory programme that begins in grade 9.
