Alternative Schools

Alternative schools are safe, highly engaged, smaller school environments. They use non-traditional hands-on approaches to learning the required Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum. Each school has a distinct identity and focus, such as democratic education, holistic learning, physical art, mindful living, entrepreneurship, social justice, community outreach and more. These schools are ideal for students seeking an alternative to mainstream education and who want to take an active role in their own learning.

Elementary and secondary alternative schools are open to any resident of Toronto.

  • A centralized application process for elementary alternative schools is currently under development and will be available in January 2023.

  • Applications for secondary alternative schools are received at each secondary alternative school.

Grade 8 to 9 Virtual Secondary Alternative Schools Fair

Each school has a distinct identity and focus, such as democratic education, holistic learning, physical art, mindful living, entrepreneurship, social justice, community outreach and more. These schools are ideal for students seeking an alternative to mainstream education and who want to take an active role in their own learning.

To support our Grade 8 students and families, the TDSB is hosting a Grade 8 to 9 Virtual Secondary Alternative Schools Fair that will highlight the alternative schools in the Board that offer Grade 9 programming.

 

The Grade 8 to 9 Virtual Secondary Alternative Schools Fair is taking place on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.     

The following secondary alternative school will host virtual open houses at the fair:
