Random Selection Process

The Random Selection Process is used to place applicants in an Elementary Alternative School and grade (where seats are available).

Families can apply to a FIRST choice school and a SECOND choice school. Depending on your choice(s), there are six possible scenarios you may encounter during the placement process:

Scenario 1:  Applicant applies only to their first school choice and receives an offer

• You can accept the offer, or
• You can decline the offer. If you decline, your child will attend their designated school (based on your principal residential address), and no further offers will be made for an Elementary Alternative School.

Scenario 2:  Applicant applies only to their first school choice and does not receive an offer

• Your child will be placed on the waitlist for their first school choice.
• If a seat becomes available, you will receive an offer. You can accept the offer, or if you decline, your child will attend their designated school by principal residential address.
• If no seat becomes available by the end of the process, your child will be removed from the waitlist and your child will attend their designated school (based on your principal residential address), and no further offers will be made for an Elementary Alternative School.

Scenario 3: Applicant applies to both a first and second school choice, and receives an offer to their first school choice

• The system will automatically remove your child from the second school choice waitlist.
• You can accept the first school offer, or
• If you decline the first school choice, your child will attend their designated school (based on your principal residential address), and no further offers will be made for an Elementary Alternative School.

Scenario 4:  Applicant receives an offer to their second school choice and accepts the offer

• You can accept the offer, and your child will remain on the waitlist for their first school choice.
• If a seat becomes available at their first school choice, you will be offered a seat there and automatically removed from the second school choice.
• If you decline the offer to the first school choice, your child will attend their designated school (based on your principal residential address), and no further offers for an Elementary Alternative School will be made.
• Please refer to Scenario 6 if your child wishes to remain in their second school choice.

Scenario 5: Applicant receives an offer to their second school choice and declines the offer

• Your child will stay on the waitlist for their first school choice.
• If a seat becomes available at the first school choice, you will be offered a seat there. You can accept it or decline.
• If you decline the first school offer, your child will attend their designated school (based on your principal residential address), and no further offers will be made for an Elementary Alternative School.
• If no seat becomes available by the end of the process, your child will attend their designated school (based on your principal residential address), and no further offers will be made for an Elementary Alternative School.

Scenario 6: Applicant receives an offer to their second school choice, accepts the offer, and wants to be removed from their first school choice waitlist

• Your child will remain on the waitlist for the first school choice.
• If you wish to be removed from the first school choice waitlist, please email [email protected] right away to request removal.
• If you do not request removal and a seat becomes available at the first school choice, your child will be moved to the first school choice and removed from the second school choice.
• If you decline the first school offer, your child will attend their designated school (based on your principal residential address), and no further offers will be made for an Elementary Alternative School.

Please review your FIRST choice and SECOND choice carefully before submitting your application. No changes can be made to your choices once offers have been made. All offers (and declines) are final and there are no exceptions or appeals.
