The electronic translation service on the Toronto District School Board website is hosted by Google Translate, a third party service. The TDSB does not guarantee or warrant the reliability, accuracy or completeness of any translated information.
The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 100 languages, but does not capture all languages or dialects.
The basic translation goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material. Before you act on translated information, we encourage you to confirm any facts that are important to you or may affect any decisions you make.
The Toronto District School Board is committed to equity and community engagement, and by providing this tool, we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English.
TDSB has a wide range of elementary alternative schools available to students. Families are encouraged to research schools and programs to learn about the educational philosophy and distinct pedagogy before completing the online application.
Elementary alternative schools will hold information sessions and/or open houses for students, parents/guardians/caregivers in January and February. Visit the Elementary School Open Houses and Information Nights web page for dates and times. If the school is not hosting an open house or information session, please contact the school directly for information about the elementary alternative school.

Elementary Alternative Schools Webinar Presentation
Students may apply for up to two elementary alternative schools. The online application for admission for September 2023 will be open from Monday, January 16 at 4 p.m. to Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 4 p.m.
A random selection process will be implemented for the placement of all applicants.
When the number of applicants does not exceed available space at the requested schools, the student will be placed in one of the requested schools, as determined by the random selection process.
When the number of applicants for a class exceeds the number of spaces available, students will be selected through a process that supports the TDSB’s commitment to improving the historically and currently underserved students in elementary alternative schools that reflect the diversity of the Board and the City. Admission priorities may change to meet the needs of the system and will remain aligned with the commitments to equity outlined in the TDSB’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan and recommendations from the Enhanced Equity Task Force Report.
Offers, Acceptances, and Confirmations The random selection process for elementary alternative schools will occur centrally. Please do not contact schools directly for selection results. March 8, 2023: Acceptances and waitlist status will be sent via email, to all applicants. Offers expire March 21, 2023 at 4 p.m. If you do not accept your placement by the deadline, the placement will be automatically declined. March 22, 2023: Second round of acceptances and waitlist status will be sent via email, to all applicants. Offers expire March 28, 2023 at 4 p.m. If you do not accept your placement by the deadline, the placement will be automatically declined. Note: During both rounds of acceptance, should the family decline the offer of placement or not accept the offer of placement before the deadline, the child will attend their designated school by address, and no other offer to an elementary alternative school will be provided to the applicant.
