The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) is designed for students aged 3 to 12. It focuses on the total growth of the developing child, touching hearts as well as minds and encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development.
Currently the Toronto District School Board has one authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program school. Harrison Public School offers the PYP from Junior Kindergarten to grade 6. The Toronto District School Board is currently in the process of authorizing more PYP schools. Cedarvale Community School and JR Wilcox Community School are IB Candidate school which means they are in the process of becoming authorized PYP schools.
The PYP draws on research and best practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, engaging, challenging and significant educational framework for all children.
There are no specific entrance requirements to attend the PYP at Harrison PS or Cedarvale CS except that students must live within the catchment area (refer to Find Your School to determine catchment area). If students do not live within the catchment area, an Optional Attendance application must be submitted to the school.
