International Languages – Elementary/African Heritage 2021 – 2022 Program

The International Languages – Elementary / African Heritage Program is now offering language classes to students (TDSB and non TDSB) Kindergarten to Grade 8. One day each week, they will have live face-to-face interactive lessons with their instructor and other students for approximately 30 minutes. Activities will be focused on building student’s abilities in oral communication, reading and writing.

Please note that a minimum of 23 students is required to open a language class.

African Heritage, Albanian, American Sign Language, Amharic, Arabic, Aramaic, Armenian, Azerbaijan (full), Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Creole, Dari, Edo, Farsi/Persian, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Karen, Korean, Macedonian (Full), Mandarin Simplified, Mandarin Traditional, Marathi (full), Mongolian, Nepalese, Pashtu, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Sanskrit, Serbian, Shona, Sinhalese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog (full), Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan, Tigrinya, Turkish, Twi, Urdu and Vietnamese.

Free while program is delivered remotely/from home.


Language classes will run remotely/from home.  There is a possibility that classes may transition to a physical classroom during this school year.


Classes are held one day a week, after regular day school or Saturday. There are 30 classes/weeks in total.

First day of classes:

Friday classes: Sept 24, 2021
Saturday classes: Sept 25, 2021
Monday classes: Sept 27, 2021
Tuesday classes: Sept 28, 2021
Wednesday classes: Sept 29, 2021
Thursday classes: Sept 30, 2021

Please note that there are no classes on PA Days, long weekends, December Break and March Break.


Classes run for 2.5 hours. Language classes are offered various times of the week. Click here for days and times available.

Students will receive approximately 30 minutes face to face time through Google Meet. Remaining 2 hours will be spent on independent work.

In order to complete online registration, you must have your child's Ontario Education Number (OEN). The Ontario Education Number can be found in your child's report card.

Parent/Guardian may choose only the same language once. For example, you cannot register for Arabic on Mondays and Arabic on Tuesdays. You can register for Arabic on Monday and Vietnamese on Tuesday.

Parents may choose up to 6 different languages. Please ensure that class times do not overlap with each other.
