List of Candidates and their Bio/Description of Interest

  • Katrina Nicole Matheson - Ward 10 PIAC Co-Representative Candidate. I am currently a PhD Candidate in Science & Technology Studies, and a mother of two in the TDSB. I have been organizing parents around the TDSB since June 2023 under the name the Toronto Schools Caregiver Coalition. With more than 800 parents on my email list, most of my organizing is focused on the need for more school funding at the provincial level. Although our board also deserves scrutiny, provincial education grants have faced direct cuts as well as inflationary erosion over the last 25 years that have left Ontario schools unrecognizable compared to what they once were. Aside from a blanket need for more funding, I am also interested in improving curricular implementation and facilitating mechanisms to meaningfully address bullying and discrimination. I see PIAC as not only a tool for governance but also for organizing parents within the TDSB. I am also excited about using PIAC as a common provincial institution to unite with parents in other boards.
  • Jacqueline Wylde - Ward 10 PIAC Co-Representative Candidate. I am interested in being the PIAC rep after spending 5 years as co-chair of Hawthorne's School Council and working very closely with Essex School Council.  In my time as co-chair, we underwent a re-visioning process for the pillars of the school and reorganized the relationship between Essex and Hawthorne, strengthening both school communities through increased collaboration.  We grew our council substantially and made it active, focussed on making the school better for kids, making the school a community hub, and making participation in school council a fun way to meet people and contribute to the community.  I believe that parents play an important role in our schools, and that healthy and functional school councils can help make schools better community hubs and learning environments for our children. I hope to help other schools strengthen their parent involvement through a role at PIAC.
