Entry to Trades - Cook

What to Expect

Cook (Trade Code 415A) is an in-demand skilled trade in Ontario. While it is not a compulsory trade, a voluntary Certificate of Qualification and the national Red Seal endorsement are available through Skilled Trades Ontario (STO).

Through the “Try-a-Trade” stream, TDSB Community Services offers Entry to Trades – Cook, a pre-apprenticeship program designed for newcomers and visible minorities. The program provides an accessible pathway to explore the trade, determine career fit, and pursue apprenticeship opportunities with employer sponsorship.

Participants are introduced to careers in the food service and hospitality sector, including restaurants, cafés, bakeries, hotels, resorts, cruise lines, catering companies, and industrial kitchens. Learning is supported by industry professionals and guest speakers, and includes demonstrations, and real-time service.
