Early Years

Early childhood learning is essential to long-term success. The TDSB supports children and families in the Early Years by providing safe, engaging learning environments and a range of programs, including child care, EarlyON Centres, Kindergarten, and before- and after-school programs.

26th Annual Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day

On October 21st, 2026, the Toronto District School Board will join others in celebrating the 26th Annual Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. The TDSB recognizes that the early years of a child's life has an enduring impact on their future learning as stated in the TDSB Early Learning and Care Policy. Early Childhood Educators and Child Care Workers provide enriching, age-appropriate learning experiences for children in Child Care and Before- and After-School Programs, EarlyON Child and Family Centres, Kindergarten classrooms, and TDSB Extended Day Programs.

This year’s Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day theme, Care Counts, recognizes the vital role that care plays in supporting children's learning, well-being, and development. This infographic highlights Early Childhood Educators in the TDSB and the important work they do with children and families across Toronto each day.

Infographic titled “Caring for Our Youngest Learners: ECE Impact in the TDSB.” It highlights 1,420 designated Early Childhood Educators supporting Full Day Kindergarten across 469 TDSB schools; 200+ Early Childhood Educators and Early Childhood Assistants supporting TDSB Extended Day Programs; 380+ Child Care and Before/After-School Programs supported by Central ECEs; and 10,000+ children and families served annually by 110+ Parent Workers across 75 TDSB-operated EarlyON Centres. Illustrations depict educators, children and families in early learning environments, with a central “community heart” motif and a “Vision for Early Years” section.
