PHYSICAL ACTIVITY VS SCREEN TIME: WHO'S DOING WHAT AND HOW MUCH?: This article highlights TDSB findings, some of which are referenced in the 2011 Get Active Toronto Report on Physical Activity. Data from the TDSB 2006 Student Census was re-examined for a closer look at the relationships between demographic factors and middle-level and secondary school students participation patterns in a number of areas. PORTUGUESE-SPEAKING STUDENTS IN THE TDSB: AN OVERVIEW: This document combines demographic information, Federal Census data, as well as relevant scholarly literature to guide the recently formed TDSB Task Force supporting our TDSB Portuguese-speaking students. It first presents historical information about our Portuguese-speaking students, followed by a summary of external literature pertaining to the Portuguese-speaking community within and outside of Canada, and finally current academic achievement trends within the TDSB. POST-SECONDARY PATTERNS: 17 YEAR OLD STUDENTS: This report looks at the post-secondary applications of 17 year olds in Grade 9 in the 2007 applications cycle. It looks at who confirmed an offer of admission from Ontario universities and community colleges; who applied but did not confirm an offer of admission; and who did not apply to post-secondary school in 2007. SINGLE-SEX SCHOOLS: LITERATURE REVIEW: This review examines the recent literature and research regarding the notion of single-sex schools, with a particular focus on the needs of and the educational options for boys, and specifically all-boy schools. It addresses different perspectives of the issue, the influences that are shaping recent directions, and the research evidence that informs these conversations. Click here for the full report (2009).
STUDENT GROUP OVERVIEWS: ABORIGINAL HERITAGE, AFGHAN, PORTUGUESE-SPEAKING, SOMALI-SPEAKING, AND SPANISH SPEAKING STUDENTS: The Overviews presented in this report (2015) examine available demographic, socio-economic, and achievement information on five socio-economically challenged student groups in the TDSB. Comparisons are made to the overall TDSB population. Information is taken from a variety of available sources. The Overviews are intended to be updated on a periodic basis to provide information on achievement gaps, student outcome differences, and changes over time.
STUDENT SUCCESS INDICATORS FACT SHEETS:
The Student Success Indicators Fact Sheets from 2011-2012 incorporated information from TDSB’s School Information Systems (SIS), with data from the TDSB’s 2007 and 2011 Parent Censuses, and the 2006 and 2011 Student Censuses.
Issue 1 - Year 1 (Grade 9) Annual Credit Accumulation looks at patterns of secondary school Year 1 (Grade 9) students who completed 8 or more credits, or fewer than 8 credits. Patterns of credit accumulation for participants in the 2011-12 Student Census were compared to results from the 2006-07 Student Census. Click here for the fact sheet (2013).
Issue 2 - OSSLT, Percentage of Successful Students looks at patterns of completing the Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). Patterns of credit accumulation for students who completed the 2012 OSSLT and the 2011-2012 Student Census were compared to results from 2006-2007. Click here for the fact sheet (2013).
