Future Leaders Pathway Program @ R. H. King Academy 

Grounded in a strong understanding of the Canadian social, political, and economic framework in which they live and hope to lead, the courses in the program will focus on aspects of the curriculum that will be necessary to advocate for and lead the changes that the students want to see in the world, whether that be local or global. The courses will give students a chance to explore their own identities as leaders within their communities and to consider the problems/concerns that they want to dedicate themselves to. In addition to the contextual and theoretical exploration of our world, and the many ways leaders affect change, the courses in the Future Leaders Pathway will give students a chance to practice their leadership skills by working in groups, as part of teams, and to take on different roles to explore their own leadership styles and gain leadership experience.

The course based learning will be enhanced by school and community involvement, through engagement with the co-curricular activities within R. H. King Academy, as well as an additional 40 hours of community involvement before graduation. Students will be supported and connected with many opportunities to volunteer and earn their additional community service hours both inside the school environment and in the broader school community.

Ursula Franklin Academy: Student Leadership Through Integrated Learning

Ursula Franklin Academy (UFA) is a small specialized high school in the Toronto District School Board. The school is capped at 500 students, by design. The school offers integrated liberal arts and sciences packages, preparing students for academic programs at the post-secondary level. Cross-curricular future-oriented skills such as conflict resolution, computer technology, problem-solving, student leadership, and exposure to international languages will be emphasized.

At Ursula Franklin Academy, a school focused on social justice, we are committed to ensuring that fairness, equity, inclusion and student voice are essential principles of our school community and are integrated into our registration process, programs, operations, and practices.

Birchmount Park CI BEAP Program

BEAP is a unique program that supports student-athletes, integrating academics with a rigorous athletic training program. Students in the program are dedicated and willing to do the extra physical and academic work needed to achieve their sport and educational goals. Superb training facilities are provided at school as well as at Variety Village.

BEAP Learner Profile

The aim of the Birchmount Exceptional Athlete Program is to develop well-rounded students who excel in academics, athletics, leadership and community development.

Throughout the program, students will build research, inquiry, leadership and asset-based community development skills that will culminate in a capstone project. A capstone project is a culminating project that integrates and applies the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the course of BEAP. Students in the program have the option to complete the Health and Wellness SHSM to meet the course requirements for a BEAP certificate or they can opt to take the listed electives.
