Dear Parents and Guardians,

As a parent myself, I understand how important it is to know that your child is supported, safe, and set up to succeed at school. You deserve clear answers and timely solutions when it comes to your child’s education.

That is why our government is introducing a new Student and Family Support Office at the Toronto District School Board to make the system more responsive and accessible for families. This new office will ensure parents have a direct way to raise concerns, get help, and find solutions faster. It’s part of our broader effort to make school boards more accountable and focused on student success, because when parents are heard, students do better.

The Student and Family Support Office will launch in January. If you have concerns about your child’s classroom experience, I encourage you to continue to reach out to your child’s teacher and principal first. The Student and Family Support Office will act as an additional way to help you get answers on broader community concerns, contentious or complex issues, or matters that need to be escalated after speaking with the school.

The Student and Family Support Office will be led by a supervisory officer to ensure nothing is overlooked and that your concerns receive the attention they deserve. School board staff are expected to acknowledge your inquiry within two business days and aim to provide a response within five business days. For more complex matters, school board staff will follow up with an expected timeline. The office will be overseen by the board’s Supervisor to ensure accountability and timely resolution of issues.

Further details on this office and its services will be available at the Toronto District School Board’s website by January 19, 2026.

By strengthening communication between parents, schools, and boards, we can build a more accountable, student-focused education system, one that puts families first and helps every child reach their full potential.

Sincerely,

The Honourable Paul Calandra
Minister of Education
