TDSB hosts Remembrance Day ceremonies for staff and students

Categories: News

On Tuesday, November 11 students and staff across the TDSB will mark Remembrance Day.

Courcelette Public School is hosting an assembly recognizing the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. It features student presentations on the Battle of Courcelette, Indigenous contributions to Canada’s military history, and a performance by the Junior Choir.

The ceremony also includes guest speaker, Major James D. Clarke of the CD G6 Reserves as part of the National Veterans’ Week Speakers Program. Students will be escorting visiting veterans and taking part in a wreath and flag procession.

In addition to this ceremony, staff across the TDSB’s administrative sites will gather in-person and virtually for a Remembrance Day ceremony featuring the reading of In Flanders Fields by John McCrae, and the sounding of the Last Post, as well as remarks from the Director of Education.

And at 11a.m., students and staff across the TDSB will pause for a two-minute moment of silence in tribute to all veterans who have served and sacrificed for our country.

November 11 is always a time to reflect and pay tribute to the sacrifices of the generations of Canadians who served – and continue to serve – our country, both at home and overseas.

This day holds immense significance in acknowledging the sacrifices made by brave individuals – many of whom were once TDSB students.
