Take Our Kids to Work Day: Inspiring Tomorrow’s Leaders

Categories: News

This year, 18 Grade 9 students had the exciting opportunity to visit various departments at our Head Office and discover the many roles that contribute to student success. The day was filled with energy, curiosity, and hands-on learning—and the feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive.

Maliah, a Grade 9 student, shared: “Being Director for the day was amazing because I enjoyed realistic problem-solving, thinking, and working as a team.”

Throughout the day, students explored diverse aspects of our organization:

  • Insurance and Enterprise Risk introduced perspective and risk management.

  • Partner Resources and Health, Wellness and Abilities encouraged creativity through visual collages.

  • Logistics demonstrated how automation transforms operations.

  • Communications offered hands-on experience in writing press releases and conducting interviews.

  • Legal Services led engaging discussions on privacy and social media.

  • Governance provided insight into how policies guide the system and discussed the important role of the Ministry in shaping education.

  • Guidance helped students connect their experiences to MyBluePrint and explore future career paths.

Our senior team facilitated problem-solving activities that challenged students to think critically, collaborate, and tackle real-world scenarios. Kyle, another Grade 9 participant, reflected: “I liked the activities, especially scenarios that forced us to make decisions like we were staff.”

The enthusiasm from staff was equally heartwarming. Michelle Lawrence, System Officer of People & Culture, shared: “This was the first Take Our Kids to Work Day for our Associate Director, Leola Pon. Leola demonstrated visible excitement throughout the event. While the students greatly benefitted from the experience, so did our staff teams. The kids truly brought a fresh energy to staff collaboration in planning the day.”

Thank you to everyone who made this day memorable and helped inspire the next generation of leaders!
