EDP Update- June 27th

Program Overview
The Extended Day Program (EDP) is a natural extension of the core school day providing additional programming both before and after school. This program provides seamless learning and care for children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 who require programs before the school day starts and after it ends. Programs are staffed by TDSB Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECEs).

The Extended Day Program is complementary to the regular school day, and provides a consistent and high quality learning experience for children. Staff are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive program that supports children’s well-being and engagement. In Extended Day Programs children develop skills such as: collaboration, responsibility, problem-solving, creativity, citizenship and leadership, through play- and inquiry-based learning experiences that build on their natural curiosity. Programming takes place both inside and outside of the school and outdoor active play is an important component of this program, supporting children’s healthy growth and development. Quality programming is an important component of both regular school and EDP, both of which incorporate How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years and The Kindergarten Program.

Similar to elementary education (regular school), Extended Day Programs are legislated under the Education Act and must align with Ministry of Education policies and guidelines. These programs are also governed by many of the same TDSB policies and procedures that apply to schools. This includes PR585 Board Code of Conduct, which sets standards of behaviour for all members of the school community, including students, staff, and parents/guardians/caregivers. The Board Code of Conduct is available at and should be reviewed by all EDP families.

EDP Update - July 31, 2020

Dear EDP Parents/Guardians,

As you may be aware, the Ministry of Education issued this media release yesterday regarding the reopening of schools in TDSB and across the province. As we begin to plan for the reopening of EDP, given that elementary students will be returning to school full time, we will be contacting you in the upcoming weeks to confirm your interest in the Extended Day Program and, where applicable, to confirm enrolment.

NOTE: If you were enrolled in EDP on March 13, 2020, and continue to need care, your spot has been reserved; however, you still need to pre-register to confirm your space.

We would like to thank you in advance for your understanding as we continue to navigate through these uncertain times. The TDSB recognizes the importance of before- and after-school programming and care, and we look forward to working with your child/ren during the 2020-21 school year.

Thank you.

EDP Update to Families - June 12, 2020

Dear EDP Families,

We hope you and your families are keeping well during these challenging times.

As you are likely aware, on Tuesday June 9th the Ministry of Education announced that “as the province continues to implement its Framework for Reopening the Province, child care centres across Ontario will be able to reopen with strict safety and operational requirements in place, similar to the safety guidelines required for emergency child care centres”.

We are currently in the process of consulting with Ministry and the City regarding Guidelines for re-opening TDSB Extended Day Programs. We will be sending out information to you shortly that will help us determine the needs of our EDP families during the summer and looking ahead to the upcoming school year. Please note that the EDP delivery model for the September 2020-21 school year will be based on Ministry of Education and Public Health direction and is still to be determined at this time.

We understand some of you have reached out to inquire about your enrolment status for the upcoming school year. More information will be shared about that once we receive further Ministry Direction.

The TDSB Extended Day Program remains committed to supporting families and we acknowledge the challenges and uncertainly faced as a result of COVID-19. We thank you in advance for your patience as we await further provincial direction.

Please know that our team remains available should you want to connect with us directly. We hope to be able to share more information with you in the coming weeks.
