Extended Day Programs (EDP) provide seamless learning for children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 who require care before school starts and at the end of the school day. Children will develop skills such as collaboration, responsibility, problem-solving, creativity, citizenship and leadership through interesting activities. Extended Day Programs will be delivered by TDSB staff including a Designated Early Childhood Educators.

Extended Day Programs:

  • Operate Monday to Friday, 7:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. at your local school
  • Accept fee subsidies from Toronto Children’s Services
  • Provide nutritious snacks (morning and afternoon)
  • Are available during PA Days, Holidays, School Breaks *where there is demand
  • Are a fee-based service for parents who wish to register their child

EDPs are aligned with the Ministry of Education’s How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years. Programs take place in shared space classrooms and include both indoor and outdoor elements.

Hours of Operation

REGULAR SCHOOL DAY
Extended Day Programs operate before and after the regular school day, beginning at 7:15 a.m., until the entry bell, and resuming at the dismissal bell until 6 p.m.

PA DAYS & SCHOOL BREAKS
Families will be asked in advance if care is required during PD days, Winter Break, March Break and during the summer. Summer programming may be offered at a selection of TDSB school locations. EDPs will be closed for statutory holidays, one week during the Winter Break and during the last two weeks of August.

Staff

Extended Day Programs are led by qualified TDSB educators, primarily Designated Early Childhood Educators. The staff-to-child ratio is 1:15, meaning for every 30 children (the maximum group size per classroom) there will be two qualified staff.

Program Fees

The Extended Day Program is legislated to be a fee for service program paid for directly by families on a cost recovery to the Board. Non-payment of fees may/will result in loss of access to EDP.

Children will attend the EDP at the school where they are registered. A one-time non-refundable registration fee of $50.00 will be required at the time of registration ($75 for two children, $100 for three or more children). The fee will be refunded if a space is not available in the program. A registration fee may also be required if there is a break in registration in the program over the summer period. Registration does not guarantee that a program will be developed, or that a space in the program is available.

Currently the fees for an EDP are as follows:

  • $32 per day on instructional (regular school) days (Before and After School)

  • $54 per day on non-instructional days (PD days and winter/March/summer breaks)

NOTE: Fees are subject to change. Families will be notified in writing four weeks prior to any fee changes.

If your family is currently receiving a fee subsidy for licensed child care through Toronto  Children’s Services, you will be able to transfer your subsidy to an Extended Day Program by connecting with the City of Toronto Caseworker.
The City of Toronto oversees child care fee subsidies. For information regarding Child Care Fee Subsidy, please visit the City of Toronto website or call 416-392-KIDS(5437) or 311.
