It is my
pleasure to be one of the elected TDSB Student Trustees of 2020. My role is to
advocate for students and to represent the needs of all students and
parents/guardians across the Toronto District School Board.
My name is
Mays Abusaifan and I am a Grade 12 student at L’Amoreaux Collegiate Institute
in Scarborough. I have been in the French Extended program for over 6 years and
have recently joined the Health & Wellness SHSM Program. Since the start of
my high school experience, I have been actively seeking out opportunities to
help my community – volunteering for TDSB’s International Languages Program and
social events around my neighbourhood.
As a TDSB
student myself, I strive to ensure that all students have access to the same
opportunities, regardless of their circumstances; this is especially important
now that COVID-19 has disrupted the lives of many. I plan to focus my time on
ensuring widespread access to educational and mental health resources to help
empower the future of tomorrow.
When I’m not
doing work, I enjoy spending time partaking in theatre related activities. This
includes directing and acting in live performances, as well as keeping up with
all the newest musicals. I am also passionate about advocating for injustice
issues and working towards a more socially-conscious society.
On the TDSB
website, and on this page, you can stay informed on what’s happening at the
Board, including policies under review, program updates and discussions around
new initiatives to improve student success. You can also learn more about ways
you can get involved and participate in the education process, like attending
Board meetings or checking out volunteer opportunities.
Education is
a shared responsibility, and I welcome and encourage your participation in our
public school system.
