Health and Safety Measures – As we prepare for a new school year, the TDSB continues to follow the health and safety guidance of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Ministry of Education and Toronto Public Health. Read more about how we continue to keep our staff and students safe.

 

Stay Connected with your School – The TDSB is offering two new ways to stay connected with your school and the TDSB. Learn about opting in for text messages and using the School Messenger app, which provides a faster and easier way to report absences. Learn more.

 

Mental Health and Well-Being – Supporting students’ mental health and well-being is a priority. The TDSB’s Professional Services Staff and Mental Health team offer a wide range of supports throughout the year, including webinars and virtual drop-in hours. Check out their website and learn more about their services, programs and find a wealth of resources to support you and your child.

 

Director’s Leadership Report – At last night’s Board meeting, Director of Education Colleen Russell-Rawlins shared her monthly Leadership Report where she spoke about our priorities for the year including creating joy and engagement in classrooms where every student feels respected, affirmed and safe as the foundation for high achievement and success. New Trustee Appointed – Trustees have appointed Aleem R. Punja as the new Trustee for Ward 17 (Scarborough Centre), at its regular Board meeting on August 31. Mr. Punja was the successful candidate following an open application process that was launched after the election of former Ward 17 Trustee David Smith to the provincial legislature in June. Celebrating Learning – Read more about our amazing top scholars, Shoreham Public Sports and Wellness Academy’s showcase of their learning with technology and the success of students participating in the 2022 Black Student Summer Leadership Program.

 

Connecting with Staff – As part of a strategy to support and encourage all Ontarians in achieving greater work-life balance, the province passed the Working for Workers Act in December 2021. In line with that, the TDSB has developed the Disconnecting from Work Policy to support healthy and professional boundaries between work and home for staff. Read more about connecting with staff.

Phased-in Start for Student Transportation – The Toronto Student Transportation Group will once again be implementing a phased-in start for student transportation to provide a more consistent service for families and to ensure that students with special education needs are prioritized and receive bus service beginning the first week of school. Find out your child’s student transportation start date and learn more about our plans to address any issues with driver availability. All parents/guardians with children who take the bus to school are encouraged to sign up for the Student Transportation Parent Portal to access important information and updates.

TDSB Backpacks and School Supplies Drive - Backpacks and school supplies can be expensive for some families, but you can help! Our Backpacks and School Supplies Drive is LIVE and 100% of proceeds support students in need. Donate today and help us ensure TDSB students get the most out of their school experience.

Youth Climate Action Grants - Calling all TDSB students! City of Toronto grants of up to $1000 will be available to student groups who want to foster climate action projects in their schools and communities. Applications for grant funding will open on September 26, 2022. Learn more.
