Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Please find below some important information for you before we leave for the winter break. We wish you a relaxing and restful time off.

Message from Toronto Public Health
Please read the most recent message from Toronto Public Health about protecting your family from Omicron during the winter break.

Rapid Antigen Test Kits for Student Use over Winter Break
Before students leave for the winter break, they will receive a rapid antigen test kit containing five tests, to bring home. The kits will also come with printed instructions from the Ministry of Education on how and when to use these kits. Learn more about the kits.

COVID-19 Vaccinations
All children aged 5 and older are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Over the break Toronto Public Health will be offering lots of opportunities across the City to be vaccinated. Read details about where and when clinics will be offered and read information about the COVID-19 vaccination for children on the Toronto Public Health website.

Winter Break Calendar
The TDSB’s school year calendar is approved by the Ministry of Education annually in the spring. The 2021-22 school year calendar states that the winter break is from December 20 to December 31 inclusive. This year, as New Year’s Day, a federal statutory holiday, falls on a Saturday, the TDSB is recognizing it on Friday, December 31 and all school board offices will be closed. Classes will begin on Monday, January 3, 2022.

Severe Weather Procedures
The cold weather is already upon us and so is the likelihood of severe weather conditions. This year, when buses are cancelled, all schools -- including both in-person and virtual learning -- will also be closed to staff and students. Read all the details in our letter to the community.

Winter Well-Being
As parents and caregivers, we may be wondering what we can do to help keep our children active and healthy, and to positively support their mental health and well-being. Use our Winter Well-Being Guide to find a variety of culturally-responsive resources and accessible activities to help make this winter a little easier and fun for you and your family. Information on where and how to reach out for help is also included.
