Categories: Happenings @ TDSB

On October 16th, 2018 the Toronto District School Board will celebrate the commitment, hard work and professionalism of Early Childhood Educators and Child Care Workers who work with young children. This important work aligns with the board’s P.022 Early Learning & Care Policy, and belief that “the early years of a child’s life have a profound and enduring impact on their future learning and development”.

This day recognizes the valuable contributions of Early Childhood Educators and the important role they play in strengthening early education and care. Child Care Worker & Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day is celebrated annually in the Province in Ontario and is proclaimed by school boards and municipalities, as well as the College of Early Childhood Educators, the professional body that regulates and governs Early Childhood Educators in Ontario.

In honour of Early Childhood Educators’ dedication to young children, the theme for this year’s celebration is Champions for Children. As outlined in the College of Early Childhood Educators Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice (2017), “Registered Early Childhood Educators make the well-being, learning and care of children their foremost responsibility”.

The Toronto District School Board is the largest employer of Early Childhood Educators in Ontario, with over 1,400 Early Childhood Educators supporting quality early years experiences and student success in our Full-Day Kindergarten classrooms, Extended Day Programs, EarlyON Child and Family Centres, and community led school-based Child Care programs.

We invite you to watch this short video on what our students have to say about Early Childhood Educators.

On behalf of the Toronto District School Board, please join us in expressing our sincere gratitude for the dedication, skills and commitment of our Early Childhood Educators and Child Care partners.
