Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Community Members,
Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! I hope you and your family had an enjoyable and safe summer.
As the elected Toronto District School Board Trustee for our community, my role is to advocate for you and your
child and to represent the needs of all students and parents/guardians in the Toronto District School Board. As
education was a colonial tool, I have committed myself to identifying and disrupting all forms of anti-Indigenous
racism, anti-Black racism and systems that continue to reinforce discrimination based on race, gender and class.
Your involvement in your child’s education and school life is essential to their success. You can get involved
in numerous ways, such as building a meaningful relationship with your principal, participating in your local
school council, or volunteering to coach sports. To explore these opportunities, and others, visit www.tdsb.on.ca/
In April, Trustee Sriskandarajah and I brought forward a motion on a COVID-19 Recovery Plan, which the Board
of Trustees passed unanimously. This three-phase plan will identify which groups have been most impacted by
learning loss during the pandemic, where targeted interventions will be placed, and initial outcomes that result
from these interventions. To read the first report of the Pandemic Recovery Plan, visit https://www.tdsb.on.ca/
I wish to continue to express my deepest gratitude to our frontline healthcare workers and those who provided
essential services during the pandemic, such as grocery store cashiers, delivery drivers, take-out staff, janitorial
staff, and many more. Not everyone has the privilege to work from home, and we thank all those who continued
to work throughout the pandemic to keep our Scarborough North community healthy and strong.
