Will school councils be able to meet in person for meetings this year?
While school councils will continue to meet during the 2021-22 school year, a final decision with regard to in-person vs online meetings has not yet been made.
Will swimming resume this fall?
The Ministry of Education’s COVID 19: Health and safety operational guidance for reopening permits swimming and boards should expect further guidance. The TDSB is developing additional protocols in consultation with Toronto Public Health and provincial subject associations.
Will only vaccinated kids be allowed to do extracurriculars?
No. Schools are open to all students as they always have been. All health and safety protocols will be followed.
What is the TDSB doing to ensure music classes are safe?
Vocal music will be allowed indoors with masks and outdoors without masks. Physical distancing will be required and cohorts maintained. Protocols are being developed for the use of musical instruments.
What will sports teams look like next year? Masks/no masks? Outdoors only? Will the gymnasium be used?
TDSB is developing additional protocols in consultation with Toronto Public Health and provincial subject associations such as OPHEA.
Will parents be allowed to volunteer for field trips?
Operational guidelines, which would include the role of parent/guardian volunteers, are currently being developed.
Will the TDSB allow the community use of schools?
Yes, the TDSB is working toward welcoming community groups back into our schools and is currently developing guidelines, including health and safety precautions, that will allow this to happen.
Is the TDSB allowing assemblies to happen in schools? If so, what precautions will be taken?
Virtual assemblies will continue. Assemblies will be allowed outdoors (weather permitting) with distancing between cohorts.
Will all indoor sports (high and low contact) be allowed at both the elementary and secondary level?
As with other areas, the TDSB is working to develop operational guidelines with regard to this issue.
Will gym class be required to be masked indoors for all sports and outdoors with high contact?

Are tours of schools available for new students?
In general, visitors can enter schools, however they must wear a medical mask and self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms before entering the school. With regard to tours of schools, tours will only be provided to families who are already enrolled at the specific school.
