Harbord CI Student wins Essay Contest...auf Deutsch!

Chihiro T, a grade 11 German language student at Harbord CI, has won the "Frankfurt-Wettbewerb" Essay Contest, sponsored by the Goethe-Institut Toronto. Her essay on the city of Frankfurt, Germany's capital of business and industry, was selected as the winner from the multiple entrants received from across Ontario.
The essay was written entirely in German, a great feat for a student only in her second year of learning the language. For winning the contest, Chihiro receives an all-expenses paid trip to Frankfurt this summer. While there, she will attend a three-week language course with young people from around the world, and will have the opportunity to use her German language abilities with her peers.

"I am very excited to have the chance to visit Germany and take part in my language classes," said Chihiro. Noting that her visit to soccer-mad Germany coincides with the sport’s biggest competition, which is being held in Brazil at the same time, she added "I am especially looking forward taking in the World Cup in another country that loves football!"
Chihiro's trip is made possible by the Goethe-Institut Toronto, the local branch of Germany's cultural and language institutes, which are found in over 150 cities in over 90 countries.
Harbord CI students also recently shone at the Ontario High School German Contest, placing in all categories and taking home several hundred dollars in prizes.

Harbord CI offers courses in six International and Classical Languages.
