Skittlez Gunn, an Oasis Skateboard Factory student, was shocked to hear that she was a winner in this year’s Youth Arts Pitch Contest. “I am still in disbelief; very excited and surprised at the same time“.

Skittlez won because of her pitch for a skate board design business which promotes working with local youth artists in the production of uniquely designed boards. The award is sponsored by ArtReach Toronto, City of Toronto Cultural Services, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Grassroots Youth Collaborative.

“I knew nothing about building skate boards before my time at Oasis”, said Skittlez. “It is an amazing school. I learned so much. It was a life changing experience and now I want to inspire other young artists to consider the program.”

Oasis Skateboard Factory is a Toronto District School Board Alternative School program, where students earn high school credits while developing creative and entrepreneurial skills by pitching, creating, and marketing their own brand and running a skateboard business.

Congratulations to Skittlez!
