TDSB Honours International Day of Pink 2021

Categories: Happenings @ TDSB, Great Things

Wednesday, April 14th is the International Day of Pink. The TDSB supports this important day by encouraging staff and students to wear pink to raise awareness to stop discrimination, gender-based bullying, homophobia, and transphobia. It’s also a way for the TDSB to show its support and stand in solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to continue fighting for equality and acceptance.

This year, International Day of Pink falls under the Spring Break mandated by the Ministry of Education and schools will be closed during that week beginning April 12. However, the TDSB intends to still honour the day by raising the rainbow flag at TDSB headquarters and turning the main page of the TDSB website pink. Some of our schools, such as Central Toronto Academy, are marking the day in advance.

Central Toronto Academy has chosen Friday, April 9 as their Day of Pink and have organized a virtual movie night given the move to remote learning earlier in the week. The Student Council has chosen the film Mean Girls, to align with its anti-bullying message.

Its original plan, which was a day filled with student-run activities with the help of its ARTisvism Inclusivity Movement( AIM), Youth Empowerment, Student Council, Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) and the ECO Club, will be postponed until schools return to in-person learning.

International Day of Pink is celebrated every year at TDSB schools.  It’s more than just a symbol of a shared belief in celebrating diversity, it’s also a commitment to creating a more inclusive and diverse world that is open-minded and respectful.
