Background

Regulations have been filed under Bill 115 that impose new terms for collective agreements for all School Board employee groups for the next two years. For more information, please see the news release issued by the Minister of Education on Thursday, January 3.

On Tuesday, March 26, 2013, ETFO announced that it was suspending its advice to members with regards to participation in voluntary/extra-curricular activities. For more information, please see the news release issued by ETFO. ETFO has since announced that it has come to an “understanding” with the province on a number of items of concern and discussions between the two sides are ongoing.

On March 31, 2013, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) announced that a tentative agreement had been negotiated with the province and that a number of ongoing concerns had been resolved. For more information, please see the news release issued by the Minister of Education on Thursday, April 4. Members of OSSTF District 12 (Toronto) have voted to accept the Memorandum of Understanding with a period of local bargaining to follow.

Extra-Curriculars

The Toronto District School Board has full participation from schools in all centrally-coordinated athletics, sports, arts and music events for the spring season. In addition to centrally-coordinated extra-curricular activities, there is also a number of school-coordinated extra-curricular activities that are currently running.

Elementary Athletics/Sports
With the announcement that extra-curriculars can resume, centrally-coordinated TDESAA (Toronto District Elementary School Athletics Association) late spring sports are being planned for elementary schools. These include Cricket, Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer and Track and Field.

Secondary Athletics/Sports
Centrally-coordinated TDSSAA (Toronto District Secondary School Athletics Association) spring sports have already started. These include Archery, Badminton, Baseball, Co-ed Volleyball, Cricket (outdoor), Field Lacrosse, Flag-Football (girls), Rugby, Slo-Pitch, Soccer-Boys (East and West only; North and South played in the fall), Soccer-Girls, Softball (girls only), Table Tennis, Tennis, Track Field and Ultimate Frisbee.
