Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) helps newcomers learn English and assists them in the settlement process and integration into Canadian society.
Classes run throughout the year, are offered part-time and full-time and some locations offer evening and weekend classes. Most locations provide child-minding services.
The LINC program is open to all newcomers who meet the following criteria:
- a landed immigrant (not a Canadian citizen or visitor)
- a convention refugee (not a refugee claimant)
- 18 years of age or older
All qualified applicants will meet with a program counsellor for an assessment before they can start attending classes. Applicants will be assessed for their English-speaking skills and will be placed into a classroom according to their level and class availability. The LINC program offers seven levels, ranging from beginner to high-intermediate.
All of our locations are accessible by transit, and, in some cases, participants may qualify for transportation assistance.
To find out if you qualify, visit or call a TDSB LINC location near you or contact the YMCA Assessment Centre at 416-925-LINC (5462) - more info at www.ymcagta.org/language
