Welcome to the scholarships page for the Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement.

This centralized resource is designed to support and empower Black students in their academic journey by providing scholarship opportunities.

Here, you will find a curated list of scholarships as they become available from a range of organizations, institutions, and community partners. These opportunities reflect a shared commitment to advancing equity, recognizing excellence, and reducing financial barriers to education.

Building Black Futures in Architecture Scholarship

We are excited to share the 2026 Building Black Futures in Architecture Scholarship! Through the generous donations of our architecture partners, we will be offering two scholarships valued at $48,000 for each ($12,000 per year over 4 years) to two graduating Black students entering an architecture degree program.


Eligibility Criteria:


  • Black (African, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Canadian, Afro-Indigenous, Afro-Latinx, Black Diaspora) graduating (Gr.12) TDSB student.
  • Must have applied/been accepted to one of the following post-secondary institutions across Canada in their accredited architecture degree programs:
  • Ontario: Carleton University; Laurentian University; Toronto Metropolitan University; University of Toronto or University of Waterloo.
    • Alberta: University of Calgary.
    • Manitoba: University of Manitoba.
    • Nova Scotia: Dalhousie University.
    • Quebec: McGill University; University of Laval or Universite de Montreal.
  • Demonstrated leadership and involvement in school and/or community.
  • Evidence of personal achievements, including overcoming adversity.
  • Willing to meet scholarship maintenance requirements.

Submission Requirements:


  • Resume
  • Two reference letters
  • Official transcript
  • Portfolio or work samples (up to 3 items; digital accepted)
  • A letter of interest (1,000 words max), responding to the following question: How have your life experiences shaped your passion for architecture/design, and how do you hope to contribute to others through your future work?  

 

Applications are being accepted from Monday, April 20th until Friday, May 29th, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Interested applicants should submit via this Google form.


Bolt Financial Award


Are you interested in the skilled trades, construction, or a related college/university pathway? The BOLT Financial Award provides funding for full-time students in construction-related programs, with awards of up to $5,500 depending on the program or training. Support may also be available for certificate and skills training courses if applied for before the course begins. In addition to financial assistance, BOLT helps connect recipients to summer, co-op, and full-time employment opportunities in the field. Know Your Worth Scholarships


The African Heritage Month Planning Volunteer Committee and TDSB are committed to encouraging and supporting students of African heritage to further their post-secondary education. Three Know Your Worth Scholarships are available to Black TDSB students once again this year.

  • Know Your Worth Kuumba Creative Award – Deadline is April 10 at 7 p.m.  
  • Know Your Worth Umoja Leadership Award – Deadline is April 24 at 7 p.m. 
  • Know Your Worth Kujichagulia Academic Award – Deadline is May 8 at 7 p.m. 


The Alliance of Jamaican Alumni Associations (AJAA) Bursaries


The Alliance of Jamaican Alumni Associations (Toronto) (AJAA) invites all graduating Ontario secondary students of Jamaican descent who are accepted into a post-secondary program to apply for the 2026 Graduates Program bursary and awards ceremony. The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026. There will be an awards ceremony on Sunday, June 28, 2026. For eligibility criteria and to apply visit the AJAA website.
