Lakeshore Collegiate Institute

School History

New Toronto Secondary School opened its doors on September 4, 1951, on Eighteenth Street (now Kipling Avenue) to meet the growing post-WWII demand for secondary and vocational education in Etobicoke's Lakeshore community. Over the following decades, the facility expanded to serve as a central educational and technical trade hub for the surrounding area.

In June 1983, following school board reorganizations across Etobicoke, New Toronto Secondary School merged with nearby Alderwood Collegiate Institute. The consolidated school officially opened on September 6, 1983, as Lakeshore Collegiate Institute at the original Kipling Avenue site. The institution further expanded its student body in 1988 following the closure of Mimico High School, establishing Lakeshore Collegiate Institute as the unified public secondary school for the Lakeshore region.

Lakeshore Collegiate Institute continues to proudly serve the South Etobicoke area with a variety of academic programs including French Immersion and Math, Science and Technology - Urban Design and Engineering program; as well as a diverse offering of Technical SHSM programs in Business, Construction, Hospitality & Tourism, Information & Communication Technology and Transportation.
