Our School Improvement Plan

Literacy

Our overall goal is to focus on increasing the reading level of all students.
Specific goals include:

- 2019 EQAO and DRA (reading assessment) results to indicate that 89% of Primary Division students achieved level 3 or 4
- Report Cards to indicate that 89% of Primary students are achieving at grade level in Reading
- 2019 EQAO results to indicate 92% of Junior students at level 3 or 4
- CASI (reading assessment) to indicate that a minimum of 73% of Junior and Intermediate students are achieving at grade level in Reading and Report Cards to indicate 78% are at this level.

Numeracy

Our overall goal is for all students to improve their ability to demonstrate their mathematical thinking by emphasizing problem solving across all strands. Specific goals include:

- 2019 EQAO results to indicate that 71% of primary division students and 81% of junior division students achieve an overall level of 3 or 4.
- Report Cards to indicate that a minimum of 65% of students in Grade 7 and 8 achieve at level 3 or above in the strand of Measurement as this is our weakest strand according to our June 2019 report cards.

Pathways

Our focus is to support the current and future academic success of our Grade 1 students by improving their ability to read.

Our teachers use the DRA (Diagnostic Reading Assessment) as one tool to help determine a student's reading level. Our goal is that by the end of the school year, 85% of our Senior Kindergarten and 95% of our Grade 1 students will be reading at the appropriate text level.

Community, Culture & Caring

Student safety and the development of a supportive school culture continues to be of paramount importance as we make every effort to implement initiatives designed to engage students in order to develop leadership skills, demonstrate positive citizenship and explore personal strengths and interests beyond the classroom.

We will support the development of self-regulation and through active supervision and intentional teaching and positive reinforcement of appropriate behaviour and active supervision ensure students feel safe.

We will also seek to provide opportunities for our students and parents through partnerships with community agencies such as the Early Years Learning Centre and the Malvern Resource Centre.
