Fairglen Junior Public School
Our School Improvement Plan
Literacy
We continue to place great emphasis upon acquisition of literacy skills at Fairglen. In the recent past, our school has been involved in the Early Years Literacy Project. In addition, our teachers continue to engage in professional development through our Teaching Learning Critical Pathway(TLCP). We have focused on having junior students develop their point of view and primary students are involved in making predictions as part of the TLCP.
Numeracy
In conjunction with our Board's goal of continuous improvement in student achievement, our teachers are actively involved in a Teaching Learning Critical Pathway focused on problem solving and demonstrating a critical thinking process, key components of the Ontario curriculum in Mathematics. Our Family of Schools Math Coach will assist teachers in refining the consolidation phase of the Three Part Lesson.
Pathways
Our SMART goal in the area of Pathways is to ensure that students who are achieving Level 2 and below are receiving the supports they need to achieve success. This means that we are monitoring at risk students and supporting them in a timely fashion. We want every student to reach their greatest potential.
Community, Culture & Caring
Our emphasis is to increase parental and student involvement in the life of the school. We have solicited student input on a number of issues including our local and international initiatives. Students have also been actively involved in our Student of the Month Assemblies. This year we will focus on Health and Wellness.
