Our School Improvement Plan

Literacy

This year, we will be having our grade 9 students write last year's EQAO test at the same day and time as the grade 10 students.  This will allow the current grade 9 students to be more familiar and comfortable with the actual EQAO test the following year.  We have implemented this last year and we will be examining this data for this year.  We hope to increase the percentage of first-time eligible students success rate by 6%.

Numeracy

ECI has a very popular and successful Math Club where the fears and struggles of math are overcome.  This flourishing math club is making math cross-curricular and getting the message that math can definitely be fun.  We have increased our math scores significantly in the past number of  years.

Pathways

We know that students who have accumulated 16 credits by the age of 16 have a better chance of graduating with their high school diplomas.  Within the classroom, the teachers are constantly implementing new and improved strategies to reach and teach students.  Differentiated Instruction is being implemented in the classrooms.  As well, students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are effectively being implemented.  There is assistive technology throughout the school - three functioning computer labs as well a computer in each classroom.  We will also be increasing the use of  technology in all of our classrooms.  This year grade 9 students will receive a device for their four years in high school.

Community, Culture & Caring

We have an excellent school council that meets five times a year.  During these meetings, we share information from the school and the TDSB.  Parents receive weekly newsletters and information items so parents are informed and can support their children.
