Each year the Parent/Caregiver and Community Engagement Office (PCCEO)  provides training opportunities for School Councils  across the system to support the important work of School Councils.

February 10, 2026 6:30 - 8pm Effective School Council An effective School Council thrives on strong leadership, inclusive representation, and active parent/caregiver engagement. This session explores practical strategies to build diverse and dynamic Councils that reflect the school community. Participants will learn how to identify and nurture leadership, recruit new members, and create a welcoming environment where every voice matters. February 24, 2026 6:30 - 8pm Let’s Collaborate: Strengthening School Councils Together Join us for an interactive session designed to empower School Councils and amplify their impact. We’ll explore practical strategies for effective governance, proactive problem-solving, and parent/caregiver engagement. Participants will have the opportunity to share ideas, ask questions, and work together to strengthen their Councils. This session is all about collaboration, innovation, and building a supportive network that helps every Council thrive.  
March 3, 2026 6:30 - 8pm Civil Discourse: The Art of Productive Agreements Building on our understanding of why disagreement matters, this session explores the art of turning conflict into collaboration. Participants will learn how to engage across differences with curiosity, active listening, and intellectual humility, transforming friction into productive agreements. We’ll examine strategies for fostering meaningful dialogue in classrooms, workplaces, and communities. April 15, 2026 6:30 - 8pm Policies, Procedures, and Bylaws: Navigating School Governance Together This session provides School Councils with a clear understanding of the policies, procedures, and bylaws that guide effective school governance. Participants will learn how to interpret and apply these frameworks to support their work, while also understanding the important role of collaboration with school Principals. We’ll walk through the processes for consultation, approval, and communication, ensuring Councils can act confidently and in alignment with school leadership. May 00, 2026 TBA 6:30 - 8pm School Council: End-of-year planning and succession planning This presentation supports School Councils in wrapping up the year effectively while preparing new and existing members for a smooth transition to the next. The focus is on reflecting on accomplishments, setting goals for the future, and celebrating community contributions. Participants will learn strategies for creating clear succession plans, accountability, recruiting, and training new members, and ensuring continuity in leadership. Emphasis is placed on collaboration, inclusivity, and maintaining momentum for the School Council’s ongoing success.
