Interim Director of Education Carlene Jackson to Become Ontario’s Comptroller General

Dear TDSB Community,

It is with mixed emotions that I announced today that the TDSB’s Interim Director of Education, Carlene Jackson, is to become Ontario’s Comptroller General. She will begin the new post on October 13, 2020.

In her new post as Comptroller General, she will assume the rank of Deputy Minister and be responsible for working with Ontario government ministries and provincial agencies to provide advice, share information on effective risk management and enhance internal oversight of the province’s finances.

Carlene joined the TDSB in 2017 as our Associate Director, Business Operations and Service Excellence — a position she has held until the Board named her the TDSB’s Interim Director of Education in June. Carlene has brought incredible expertise to the Board’s budget process, business and financial services, facility operations, capital planning and service excellence portfolios. She will be greatly missed. Carlene will continue to lead the Board’s budget process and the Board’s COVID school re-entry plans over the next few months until her departure.

On behalf of the Board, we congratulate Carlene on this provincial appointment and wish her every success.

If a new Permanent Director has not been hired by the beginning of October, the Board will appoint a new Interim Director of Education to assume responsibility when Carlene begins her new post with the Government of Ontario.

Robin Pilkey

Chair
