The TDSB is inviting parents/guardians and community members to provide input on the draft 2019-20 budget. The TDSB is facing a shortfall of approximately $67.8 million and trustees welcome input from the public on what they believe should be the Board’s top budget priorities.
The TDSB conducted an online budget survey in March and early April with more than 15,000 people providing their input. On April 26, the Ministry of Education announced funding cuts to school boards across Ontario and those cuts equaled approximately $21.2 million for the TDSB. Other Ministry funding reductions saw that figure grow to $42.1 million for the TDSB. This, in addition to the Board’s structural shortfall, means that trustees will need to reduce spending in the 2019-20 operating budget by $67.8 million.
With the unexpected Ministry funding cuts, the Board will be considering a budget reduction plan that is being developed by staff. When this plan is presented to the Board of Trustees, parents/guardians and all stakeholders will have an opportunity to present their views to the Board’s Finance, Budget and Enrolment Committee in writing and in person.
You can make a presentation in person to the Board’s Finance, Budget and Enrolment Committee. Meetings have been scheduled for:
- Wednesday, May 15 at 6 p.m.
- Monday, May 27 at 6 p.m.
- Monday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m.
- Thursday, June 6 at 7 p.m.
Requests to speak in person must be submitted in writing to Governance and Board Services by 4 p.m., two working days before the committee meeting day. Learn more about the delegation process.
