TDSB Students Take Part in Year-End Young Women on the Move Celebration

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Group of Young Women PictureThis past June marks the 9th year that hundreds of girls and mentors from the TDSB’s Young Women on the Move initiative celebrated their year of confidence, leadership and team work at the year-end leadership event at the Robin Hood Leadership Centre. In addition to events throughout the year, this day was generously sponsored by Johnson Inc.

Over the course of the day, students and their mentors rotated among leadership, team & trust building, cooperative, sporting, and recreational activities. It was a beautiful way to solidify a year of mentorship together.

This end of the year celebration provided all girls with the opportunity to make new friends, develop problem solving and leadership skills and gain team-building skills within their groups. In addition, girls had the opportunity to reflect on the activities and share life lessons with their school teams through the debriefs at the end of each activity.

TDSB’s Young Women on the Move (YWM) supports thousands of girls each year. The program aims to support girls in a critical analysis of barriers that girls face while reminding them that they are capable and should feel competent to enter any profession.
