Isaiah Shafqat is a Mi'Kmaq Secondary Student at Riverdale Collegiate Institute. Currently in Grade 10, Isaiah raises awareness about issues that affect Indigenous people in and outside of school, focusing on Indigenous history and the inequality within the justice system, land rights, cultural appropriation, MMIWG2S and Indigenous identity. During his free time, Isaiah likes to attend pow wows and support local Indigenous artists. During the 2019-2020 school year, Isaiah was an active member of the TDSB Student Senate as LC4 Co-chair, where he advocated for student voice. Isaiah also enjoys playing the clarinet and learning about Psychology.
As Indigenous Student Trustee, Isaiah aims to raise awareness about and support for Indigenous students and Indigenous identity. He also plans to advocate for integrating Indigenous history into the curriculum as he believes its an important part of Canada's history.
