Let the Sunlight In: Conserve Electrical Energy

Inspired by Maurice Cody and Bedford Park public schools, this poster has been designed to help schools monitor and improve the use of lights in school buildings. The poster can be used by students in an EcoTeam or environment club or classroom teachers interested in developing authentic data management activities for their students.

Students can:

  • collect and record data,
  • look for patterns and identify changes in behaviour,
  • and use the data to communicate participation rates to the school community by using pie charts and bar graphs.

Let the Air Flow whole school chart: Conserve fossil fuels

This chart will help schools monitor whether classroom (and office?) heating vents are kept clear of objects so that the heat can flow unimpeded. It can be used by students in an environment club or EcoTeam, or by classroom teachers interested in developing authentic data management activities for their students. Save our Resources whole school monitoring chart: Maximize resource use

This chart can help students monitor and improve the success of their school's recycling program. Students can track, classroom by classroom, how successful students and staff are at keeping recyclables out of the garbage so that they can be captured as part of their recycling program.
