Two hundred and fifty students at Rose Avenue Junior Public School are heading into the new school year with a little more confidence and a lot more supplies thanks to a generous $10,000 donation from Healthy Planet. The donation was made possible through Newstalk 1010’s generous media support and is an important part of Toronto District School Board’s goal of providing more than 2,000 backpacks to students across the Board as part of the TDSB Backpack and School Supplies Drive.

The donation was celebrated on September 1 in the school library, where students, staff, volunteers and community partners came together to fill 250 backpacks with school supplies.

“This generous donation is about so much more than a backpack,” said CEO Camillo Cipriano. “It helps ensure that students can walk into their classrooms feeling prepared, included and ready to learn. We are incredibly grateful to Newstalk 1010 and Healthy Planet for helping us make a meaningful difference for TDSB students and families.”

The Backpack and School Supplies Drive reflects the power of community partnerships to support student success. For many families, the cost of back-to-school supplies can add significant financial pressure.  Donations like this help remove one of those barriers and allow students to begin the school year with the tools they need to participate fully in their learning.

Through the generosity of donors, community organizations and volunteers, the TDSB is able to extend this type of support to students. Thanks to the many generous donors, 2,752 students at 90 schools received a backpack and school supplies to start the 2026-27 year strong.

This year’s Backpack and School Supplies Drive is the biggest campaign since 2021, raising more than $99,115 worth of backpack and school supply donations.
