On May 25, students in Room 204 at Kimberley Public School welcomed Grade 5 and 6 visitors from Quaqtaq, Nunavik, in the province of Quebec. The visiting students spent the day engaging in shared learning and cultural exchange.
The day began with a classroom scavenger hunt, where students worked together to explore clues and learn more about life in Quaqtaq.
Following the indoor activities, students moved outside to participate in a variety of games and sports, including volleyball and basketball. These activities encouraged teamwork, collaboration and connection between the visiting and host students.
A highlight of the visit was the opportunity for students to build new friendships and learn from one another’s lived experiences and cultures. Many students also exchanged contact information to keep in touch and maintain the connections formed during the visit.
This meaningful exchange provided an important opportunity to deepen understanding of Inuit culture and community life in Quaqtaq while fostering respect, curiosity and friendship among students.
