Categories: News

Staff and students participate in the skilled trades fairOn Friday, May 8, L’Amoreaux CI welcomed elementary students from across Family of Schools 12 and 20 for a full day of hands-on learning at the TDSB Toronto Skilled Trades Fair. The action-packed event highlighted the diverse and rewarding career pathways available in the trades, giving young learners the chance to connect with industry experts and discover new passions.

Throughout the day, the vibrant energy of the fair brought the school to life as over 500 Grade 1 to 6 students rotated through the various interactive exhibits. The event showcased more than 50 different skilled trades, ranging from culinary arts, tilework, and masonry to plumbing, locksmithing, and welding.

In an incredible display of community and leadership, Grade 7 students from Sir Ernest MacMillan Senior PS and Grade 6 students from Bridlewood Junior PS joined forces to facilitate the event. Together, they designed and ran interactive workshop stations, guiding their younger peers through engaging, practical activities.

The collaborative spirit was further boosted by the host school, with over 40 L'Amoreaux CI volunteers dedicating their time and energy throughout the day to ensure the event was a resounding success.

The learning extended well beyond the classroom. Workshops were held in the L’Amoreaux shop, and guest experts gave live demonstrations related to farming, integrated agricultural technologies, plumbing and millwright skills. This gave students a firsthand look at professional tool use and technical skills in action. Adding to the excitement, Toronto Fire Services and the Toronto Police Service brought specialized vehicles to the site, offering dynamic, on-site safety and education sessions for the students.
